Sumptuous style on a budget
Sue Kay from Tunbridge Wells has used Rust-Oleum spray paint to help her achieve a classic co-ordinated living room. The result is fantastic and we are thrilled to announce Sue has won £250 in our spray paint competition for her efforts!
Firstly Sue's husband clad the very ugly (in Sue's own words!) 1950s tiled fireplace with wood, then using Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch in Antique White (Gloss finish), he spray painted it to produce a traditional focal point. Sue explains, "he chose spray paint because it adheres to different surfaces, produces a really uniform finish and is very quick." Additionally he used Rust-Oleum Universal in Aged Copper (Metallic finish) in the centre of the fireplace for contrast. Next they bought a cheap resin mirror and spray painted it the same colour as the fireplace. Sue told us, "There’s a great interior shop near us and we were tempted by the stunning £200 mirrors they had. In the end we opted for the £35 one and sprayed it to match - job done in 20 minutes!"
Finally Sue's talented husband then painted Mark Rothko-esque designs on two old Ikea canvases using both spray paint and emulsion paint leftover from the walls. The resulting pictures are stunning and coordinate perfectly with the colour scheme.
"All in all the project probably took about 6 hours (spread over a couple of weekends)," says Sue, who describes her project perfectly, "Sumptuous on a budget!"
